Welcome to Deertrees Theatre, Harrison Maine...

Deetrees TheatreBuilt in 1936, the theatre was once home to many off-Broadway performers. More than 10 years ago, it felt like home to ME when I first laid eyes on it. I hadn't even sung there yet, I just knew... it sits on top of a big hill in a grove of trees above the cozy lakeside village of Harrison, on the border of New Hampshire's glorious White Mountains. The theatre's warm acoustics, intimate setting, and my familiarity with it over the years made it the perfect recording studio for my "LIVE" CD.

Deertrees BackstageAfter a pre-concert wine and cheese reception (compliments of my good friends John & Wendy Williams of Williams Broadcasting and Pete Connell of Oxford Homes) I had a bit of time backstage to warm up... although a "warm up" was hardly needed... August 1st (2004) was the 1st REAL Maine summer day after weeks of rain and cool weather. Temps were an almost unbearable 90 to 100 degrees or so... it was especially warm and humid inside the venue... even BEFORE the lights went up on stage! Note the two fans in my "green room"... and can you make out the John Deere tractor outside the window? It was there... very Maine, very summery.

Deertrees StageAnd here's the stage set... the lights came up, John Williams gave me a great intro, and I walked on stage thinking "What was I thinking"? I wore a pair of red silk pants that immediately stuck to my legs in the summer heat... and after singing about 3 tunes under those stage lights, I almost passed out! This, too, did pass... else we'd have no CD! You can't tell from the photo, of course, but Dan Merrill recorded the CD from a corner in the balcony where the heat was really thick and heavy. And God Bless 'im... he crawled up to the rafters somehow to hang microphones to record the audience... he had to do this twice, 'cos the flies were buzzing around the mics during sound check... so he went to the village store, bought some of that sticky fly paper stuff, crawled back up there, and hung it near the mics... all in a day's work. God Bless 'im... it worked.

"The ANNI CLARK "LIVE" disc features a brief intro from John Williams and 15 tracks of some of my most requested tunes, including 2 songs never before recorded: "I'm from Maine" (a parody of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain") and a song penned only days before the show called "Between the Rungs". It's just me and my guitar, having fun with an awesome audience who came to share in a hot, sweaty, but soulful summer night. Here's the track list:    back to top
