SUNDAY / AUGUST 29 / BETHEL GAZEBO (MAHOOSUC ARTS SUMMER BANDSTAND CONCERT SERIES) / BETHEL ME / 4PM / 207-824-3575... These folks work hard to create a consistency of great entertainment for the Bethel area community year after year. I have had the honor of playing as part of the series maybe 4 or 5 times over a long period of time & I can honestly say I have never had a bad time here. Once or twice we had to bring the show inside down the street when it rained, but still the folks showed up to support the event & we all had a ball. I will have JUST returned from my big vacation out west (the night before!) so I could use your support & maybe a big cup o' joe at this gig. I'm sure I'll have some stories to tell. FRIDAY / SEPTEMBER 10 / JJ'S / OOB ME / 207-934-0222 / 6PM ... summer days are not over, but my days outside on the deck here are over until 2011. I'll play JJ's at least once a month now through the winter & on into spring. I still really dig the casual atmosphere here, the very affordable food & beverage menu & the true spunk of all the staff... I feel like part of the family. JJ's is real close to the Pier... right next door to "Pier Fries" & the railroad tracks... Here's the [link].
SATURDAY / SEPTEMBER 11 / WHITNEY'S INN (SHOVEL HANDEL PUB) JACKSON NH / 6PM / 603-383-8916... DON'T let the word "Pub" fool you! The space I play in is a big ole barn at the base of Black Mountain which sits on top of a long hill above the quaint & beautiful Jackson village. It's rustic & lovely & the folks who run the place are really sweet. The Shovel Handel Pub is part of the Whitney's Inn complex, so yes, you can wine & dine & walk a few steps to your home for the night if you like. The food is top notch, so plan on eating well during my performance... AND they just got air conditioning here... so if it's HOT, YOU'RE NOT!! Check 'em out [here].
FRIDAY / SEPTEMBER 17 / 302 WEST / FRYEBURG ME / 8:30PM / 207-935-3021... I know the guy who owns this awesome building & restaurant/bar... Bob Wentworth is a man who has a lot of different venues under his belt in a variety of places. I have performed in several of them in the past, but have not yet played at his current location, 302 West (very near Fryeburg Academy on Rt. 302.) I stopped in recently to reintroduce myself & really liked the feel of the room. We agreed to hook up again & do some shows. I think Bob is feeling good about this spot & he plans to stay with it. SATURDAY / SEPTEMBER 18 / THE SMILIN' MOOSE / S PARIS ME / 7PM / 207-739-6006... I have often called this sweet & friendly restaurant/bar "Maine's own version of Cheers." I only get to play here every once in a while 'cos every musician who finds the place wants to play here! It's just really relaxed & it feels like home the first time you walk in. Trust me, you WILL feel like a family member if you stop by... & you might not want to leave. Good food, just right drinks, affordable prices & lots of smiling faces... thus, the smile in the name. FRIDAY / SEPTEBER 24 / SARGE'S / SACO ME / 7:30PM / 207-284-1299... OK, so this guy I know buys a restaurant/bar (no joke)... he runs it successfully for about 10 years. Then one day, I am sitting @ JJ's in OOB & the phone rings @ the bar. It's this guy... he wants to know when Anni Clark is playing @ JJ's... turns out I know this guy from VT since 1981 & I had NO IDEA it was Sarge from VT who bought this place in Saco 10 years ago! Holy Cow. So now I HAVE to perform here... it's just the natural thing to do! The folks & the food here bring back the same patrons & new ones repeatedly. I used to play here years ago when it was The Three Thieves Inn & then later when it was Silver Spoons... and NOW... Sarge's! Nice surprise... check 'em out [here].
SATURDAY / SEPTEMBER 25 / THE BRUNSWICK INN / BRUNSWICK ME / 207-729-4914... $8 in advance or at the door. The Brunswick Inn is a beautifully restored old home, now Inn & dining spot with bar, sitting rooms & a nice big wrap around porch, that sits proudly on Park Row alongside the huge grassy town square. Eileen Horner has been offering up some of the finest singer-songwriters as part of her menu for several months now. Recent performers include Jud Caswell, Ellen Tipper & Putnam Smith. When I went to see the Inn I knew immediately that playing music here could create a warm & intimate night for performer & audience alike. I was pleased that Eileen & I were able to find a date so early in the fall. Space is limited here, so we encourage reservations in advance. Call them at the number above or visit them [here].
I can't wait for these shows, but I can't wait to be able to tell you about my adventures out West either! To get some of those stories sooner rather than later, catch a show in September...
