Homeowners, small businesses and the general public are invited to this free event where experts in renewable energy will provide information, give demonstrations, and answer participants’ questions. Both adults and children will enjoy activities that educate, expand perspectives and inspire lifelong dedication to sustainable practices. Anni will be performing some of her music between activities, hopefully outdoors, weather permitting. This event is co-sponsored by Southern Maine Community College and Common Ground Learning Solutions. The location on campus is at the SMCC Sustainability and Energy Alternatives (SEA) Center and surrounding fields (Jewett Hall if weather is inclement.) Register in advance by clicking [here]. 3. FUTURE TARGETS (Mark your calendars!)

SATURDAY / JUNE 29 / 11TH ANNUAL KINGFIELD POPS FESTIVAL / KINGFIELD ME / 207-265-POPS... I am SOOO excited about playing this event! Kingfield is that really cool little town you pass through on your way to Sugarloaf Mountain & Carrabassett Valley. I have always thought that mountains & music go together... & my music & these mountains have been friends for a long time. Playing at the 11th Annual Pops Fest will be like coming home. It all takes place in a big field at the Kennedy Farm... there will be 4 acts performing, including yours truly, The Sultans of String & the Bangor Symphony Orchestra! I hear from folks that have been to this event that it is one of their fave concert series of the year, every year. Knowing that past Maine singer-songwriters have included Noel Paul Stookey & Dave Mallett, I am quite honored to be part of this year's line up. You can call the number above, e-mail info@kingfieldpops.com &/or check out their website [here]. The fees are as follows: Adults: $20 advance, $25 @ gate; 17 & under FREE! Gates open @ 4:30PM. I can't wait!!!

4. CURRENT CEREBRAL WANDERINGS

As the weather warms & the daffodils finally begin to bloom in my yard, I contemplate the passing of April. I spent a lot of time with my family in the aftermath of losing my Mom on Easter Sunday. The memorial service we pulled together for her was held on April 10th at her church in our hometown of Yarmouth. It was a personalized celebration of her life that moved all of us in attendance.

My Mom always liked to challenge herself & those around her... about 15 years ago, she put in place a challenge that I thought I might not be able to meet. I had just released my CD "A Light for Liza" which includes a song I wrote for Mom called "I Hear Your Voice." Those of you who don't know yet, my Mom lost her voice to throat cancer in the mid-80's... for 27 years, she spoke with "a talker" held up to her neck. My song suggests that I can still hear her real voice & I remember all the things she taught me. My Mom allowed as how she didn't think I'd be able to sing that song at a memorial service for her when the time came. How we wound up talking about that 15 years ago, I don't recall... but I never forgot she said that.

I am happy to say that I rose to that occasion on April 10th & was able to say "Mom, I love you, but I'm not gonna concede this one to you!" With help from my good friend Dan Merrill on guitar & vocals, I was able to play & sing the song with as much passion as I have ever sung it... I was sooo glad I didn't have to "Plan B" the moment & turn on the CD... it felt good to sing & it was a moment I'll always have to lean on. The soul is a powerful thing... every cell in my body was engaged in the singing of that song that day.

Five days after Mom's service, the tragedies at the Boston Marathon began to unfold. One of the first thoughts in my mind was "I am thankful my Mom isn't here to witness this." She would have had such a difficult time with it. Mom was an empath... she felt the pain of all people. I know she would have carried a great sadness in her heart for a long while... she would have wondered again about what's happening to our society. I am glad she missed this one.

What's more important to me, though, is that I remember she was the first person I called in tears on 9/11. I called right after I saw the second plane hit the tower. She picked up the phone... I said "MOM?" She said simply "Don't you let what these people are doing change the beautiful person that you are." WOW. I am thankful she said that... it helps me through times like this... & I will always hear her voice.

Wishing you all a beautiful spring. If you can take time to catch a show, I'd love to see you.

Peace,

Anni Clark Billboard
